BALTIMORE (AP) War of Will bounced back from a bumpy ride in the Kentucky Derby to win the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, holding off a field that included a riderless horse that threw his jockey out of the gate and still finished the race.

Trainer Mark Casse got his first Triple Crown victory, with War of Will unbothered starting from the inside No. 1 post position for the second consecutive race. War of Will was interfered with in the Kentucky Derby, which led to first-place finisher Maximum Security being disqualified. (MORE)

Santa Anita monitoring safety after latest fatality

BALTIMORE (AP) The chief operating officer of the group that owns Santa Anita Park said the racetrack will keep monitoring the safety conditions after another death of a horse in training.

A 3-year-old horse broke down with a shoulder injury Friday while galloping and was euthanized at the track in Arcadia, California. It's the 24th horse fatality in racing or training there since Dec. 26. It's the first since March 31. (MORE)

Filly dies on track at Pimlico the day before Preakness

BALTIMORE (AP) A filly collapsed and died while running at Pimlico Race Course on Friday, the day before the track hosts the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Congrats Gal faltered in the upper stretch of the Miss Preakness Stakes in 83-degree heat and was eased to the finish line. (MORE)
